Dr. Spencer Barrett, EEB Canada Research Chair will attend LSC2011

We are very honoured to invite Dr. Spencer Barrett to speak at our LSC2011!

Dr. Barrett is a Professor at the Department of of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto, and the Canada Research Chair in Evolutionary Genetics. He has extensive national and international experience as the President at Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution (2010-2012), Vice-President (North America) at Society for the Study of Evolution (2010-2012), Visiting Professor at the University of Chile (2010) and the University of Stellenbosch (2009), to list a few. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Botany, University of California in Berkeley, United States, as well as a Hon. B.Sc. from the Department of Agricultural Botany, University of Reading in England.

The research in Dr. Barrett’s laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms responsible for the evolution of plant mating strategies and their genetic and evolutionary consequences. His specific research interests include evolution and ecology of plant mating systems, pollination biology, floral evolution, gender strategies, sexual dimorphism and sex ratios, evolution of selfing and outcrossing, biology of invading plants, colonization genetics, genetics and ecology of small populations, metapopulation biology, evolution on islands, and systematics and evolution of aquatic plants.
